U13 BOYS ENJOY SUCCESS AND SHOW IMPROVEMENT THE ENTIRE YEAR

The following is a report from Mike Hahn, Manager of the U13 Kanas City United Rangers, coached by Mike Popoola:

I just wanted to share some great news with you about the KCU Rangers U13 Boys 98/99 Team.  We are on the move, improving weekly, and we just came off a very positive weekend at the Challenger Cup.

CONGRATS go out to Coach Mike Popoola, all the players, and to the parents who endured a most rainy weekend to support the team efforts. Our team won its’ Pool with two wins and one tie, and eventually lost in the Group Final to Futura Udinese, 3–1. The Boys played very well over the weekend, quite frankly, the 1–1 Tie against KC Fusion Academy could have been a 3–1 victory. The Futura Udinese team consisted mostly of Futura Inter players who are currently in first place in Heartland U13B Div 2. That said, our boys played tough against a very physical Futura Udinese team, and were in the game, down 2-1 only until the last few minutes of the game.

Another IMPRESSIVE factoid, earlier this spring we lost our first game of the season to KC Legends Black, 5–0, back on March 18. At Challenger, we were grouped in the same pool with that very same KC Legends team, Division II guest players and all, and we beat them most convincingly, 3–0, impressive turnaround of fortunes for our team.

Our team is on the move, in league play, we are one point out of first place, with 3 games to play. As for Tournaments, we are playing the Nutmeg Tournament (May 11-13), grouped with that same Futura Udinese team, and we just entered the KC Invitational. Come out and watch us, we are on the move UP. Our Boys are really playing well together, between the boys from last fall, the new additions, and the couple of free agent pick-ups, our team has really started to click and mesh well together. Most important, this positive improvement could not have happened without Coach Mike Popoola’s leadership and direction, he has these boys focused on winning, sportsmanship, and teamwork, game after game.
