Memorial Day Weekend brings the Kansas City Invitational tournament, one of the oldest and biggest in the Kansas City area.

The U13 KC United Galaxy Boys, coached by Jim Schwab, playing in the Gold Division, and the U13 KC United Brass, coached by Ken Thomas, playing in the Silver Division, both reached the Finals.

The Galaxy, which went 2-1 in pool play.  They played the KCFC/Futura Academy team that beat them 1-0 in pool play.  This will also play this same KCFC team on June 5th in the final pool game of State Cup.  The game ended tied 0-0 and went to penalty kicks to resolve the matter.  The Galaxy boys came out on top 3-2.

The U13 Brass, which went 3-0 in pool play, scoring 16 goals and allowing zero, played their final immediately after the Galaxy game.  Facing WSA from Oklahoma, the score was 3-3 at the end of regulation, and for a second time it was settled by penalty kicks.  This time the KC United team cam up short, taking home second place.

Our U14 Boys, KC United Attack, coached by Kem Thomas, also reached the finals after going undefeated in pool play, but lost in the Championship 2-0.

We had two teams with heartbreaking runs.

The U15 Girls KC United Santa Fe went 2-0-1 and tied their final opponent in every category, from score in their head to head game, to goals scored and allowed overall.  They went to penalty kicks to decide who advanced to the Finals and our Girls lost 3-2.

The U10 Boys, KC United Attack (which Grace’s brother plays for) coached by Jimmy Perez, ended pool play in a three way tie – each team was 2-1 and lost on the tie breaker to advance out of pool.
