Four teams from the Club were invited to participate as Demonstration teams at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention, held in mid January at the Bartle Convention Center, in Kansas City. The convention brought over 5,000 soccer coaches to Kansas City for a week on seminars, training sessions and meetings.
The U10 Kansas City United Girls (pictured above), coached by Nicole Ortiz, were asked to assist US Youth Soccer Director of Coaching Sam Snow in a session on diagonal passing and the use of triangles in forming lines of support.
U17 Boys coached by Emilio John and Mike Popoola, were the demonstration team for Paul Power, U-15 Academy Team Coach with English Premier League leader Manchester City FC, in a session entitled, “Movement of Strikers”.
The U18 Girls Kansas City United Metros, coached by Rich Wolf, were asked to assist two sessions. The first held Friday, January 13, was entitled, “Teaching Creative Play” and coached by Albertin Montoya, Head Coach of the U17 Women’s National Team, US Soccer. The second on Saturday afternoon was “Special Considerations to Effectively Coach Female Soccer Players” with Vanessa Martinez-Lagunas, FIFA Women’s Soccer Instructor and UEFA Pro License Candidate.
Finally on Saturday the U9 Kansas City United Energy girls, coached by Joe Waldon, and the U9 Kansas City United Attack girls, coached by Wilmer Pena, helped with “Striking a Ball”, NSCAA Youth Level II Diploma course, with Vince Ganzberg, NSCAA Associate National Staff member and former Director of Coaching for Indiana Youth Soccer.
As members of Demonstration Teams the players had the chance to work with high level coaches from throughout the world. After their sessions were finished the players also had the opportunity to attend other sessions or they could visit the Exhibitors” Hall and seek free swag from the almost two hundred vendors present.
