For 25 years the Winter Magic Indoor Soccer Tournament has been the penultimate winter soccer event in the Midwest. The tournament attracts teams from Minnesota to Texas and from Colorado to Illinois. This year’s tournament, held at five indoor soccer venues across Kansas City, attracted over 250 teams.
From U8 through U13, Kansas City United boys teams were in each Championship game, winning five of seven and taking second in the other two.
At the U8 age group the KC United Kemistry boys, coached by Kem Thomas went undefeated securing the championship with a 4-3 win over local rival KCFC Extreme.
The U9 Spirit Team, coached by Shaun Slack, also went undefeated dominating the Edmond Soccer Club from Oklahoma 6-1 in the Final.
The U10 Kansas City United Attack, coached by Jimmy Perez, reached the Championship game but fell to the Air Capital Destroyers out of Wichita.
At U11, the Kansas City United Rangers, coached by Jimmy Perez, won each of their games, capping off the Championship with a 5-1 win over the Panathinaikos Academy Elite team from St. Louis.
The U12 Kansas City United Attack, coached by Dalio Mercado, defeated the Omaha Futball Club U12 team 1-0 in a game dominated by both goal keepers.
In the U13 boys age group there were two divisions. The Gold Division saw the Kansas City United Magia team, coached Jose Velasquez fall in the final to the Wichita Lightning. In the Silver Division the Kansas City United Brass, coached by Kem Thomas, won the championship, defeating the Wichita Lightning Black side 7-3.
